Fresh Voices at BAFTA September 2013
Fresh Voices stages work by BAME writers in front of a panel of industry decision-makers and those who influence what we see. The aim of the event is to introduce writers to the industry through their work. The audience consists of other industry decision-makers – independent production company executives, broadcasters, agents, etc. a general audience consisting of industry practitioners and a specially invited group of viewers.
The format of the event is deceptively simple: a staged reading by leading actors of a one-hour television drama script followed by a moderated Q & A session where the panel responds to what they've seen and ask questions of the writer. After which the audience also get to question the writer - providing valuable feedback from two sources.
The industry panel this year includes, Kate Harwood, Head of Drama Series and Serials, BBC and Kieran Roberts, Creative Director, ITV Studios North.
Together, Whatever by Jo Johnson, is a beautifully observed relationship drama about love in the 21st century. Abby and Sam have been together for years, but their rock solid relationship is shattered when Sam, a recovering gambling addict, bets all their savings on a horse. If their relationship is to survive, Abby is going to have to find a way to forgive him. But can she?
